Lip Filler TreatmentAngelina-Jolie-lip filler treatment - cosmetic courses

Celebrities have always been the gold standard to what we perceive as being “beautiful.” So when women such as Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, and Keira Knightley, grace the red carpet with big smiles and plump full lips, having this feature becomes the desire of women and men alike everywhere. However, not everyone is born with full lips and some may need the help of lip filler treatment. Lip augmentation is a procedure that is used to both enlarge and reshape the appearance of one’s lips.

Why do we have lip filler treatment?

This procedure is not only used for cosmetic purposes, either. Some suffer from lip anomalies, such as a cleft palate, and need the procedure to live a more comfortable and full life. A person with this type of condition may have speech problems, many ear infections, and even hearing problems. By using lip filler treatment to help correct the anomaly, one can finally enjoy day-to-day life without any discomfort. There are several different ways for one to manipulate their lips through surgery. Some are more invasive than others, but in the end, it is all about one’s personal preference. The most common ways to perform lip augmentation are through lip fillers, implants, and manipulation of the appearance through surgery.

The most frequent procedure that people choose for lip augmentation is to use fillers that are injected into one’s lips. The healing process after any of these procedures should only last four to six weeks. However, the swelling should go down after a maximum of 10 days. These procedures offer the celebrity look that everyone is trying to achieve without drastically altering one’s appearance.

Lips Tell the Story of Your Age

If the eyes are a window to the soul, the lips tell the story of a woman’s age. Lips of both sexes reach the fullness of maturity in early adulthood, and then between the ages of 30 and 40 begin to lose volume and experience the shrinkage that is part of the normal aging process.

A recent scientific study concludes that fuller lips, however, more than any other facial feature, belie the telltale signs of aging to make a woman appear more youthful than her age. People notice graying hair and wrinkles less in a face with a full, young-looking mouth.

Not only do a set of plump, pouting lips communicate youthful verve, they also exude a strong sexual allure tor the opposite sex.

The Genetic Factor

Researcher David Gunn at Unilever, the firm that sponsored the study at 11 universities on a global level including St. Andrews, says that the way lips age is largely determined by genetics. While sun damage augments the signs of aging, DNA has the greater influence over lip shrinkage.

Upon analysis of a Caucasian test group of more than 100 pairs of Dutch twins as well as 162 British females between the ages of 45-75, researchers concluded that wrinkles, liver spots, and sun damage to skin resulted from both genetic and environmental influences. However, the progression of receding hairlines, grayness, and lip shrinkage are the direct result of heredity.

Improving on Heredity

Lip shrinkage may be more difficult to address than other genetic factors. While a quick trip to the beauty shop can effectively conceal the gray, you need to address lip shrinkage before it shows.

London cosmetic surgeon Barry Jones believes that subtle lip treatment at an early age can preserve lip fullness in women and thus enhance their youthful appearance longer. While a young woman does not require a complete face lift, addressing lip shrinkage before it has progressed significantly is the best course of action.

Such techniques as collagen injections or silicone implants can enhance lips and keep lips attractive for years. Jones does not normally use these procedures for women over the age of 60 because lip thinning is already advanced and such cosmetic remedies are largely ineffective.

Professional cosmetic advice can also help you keep your lips looking youthful. Artfully applied lip liner, gloss, color and powder can be wonderful aid in sprucing up even the most youthful pout.

Advances in Lip Augmentation

Even tribal cultures associate full lips with youthful beauty. Since the Stone Age, women of all ethnic background have undergone procedures, simple or complicated, to enhance lip size and create a fuller, more defined appearance. Women have come a long way since the Stone Age, but the quest for fuller lips continues. Young girls today look to the lips of Kylie Jenner and Angelina Jolie as definitive models of the way the lips of women should look.

The two main components of beautiful lips are fullness and youthfulness. As women age, fissures and crevices develop, eclipsing the youthfulness required to maintain beautiful lips. Cosmetic surgeons have developed a vast selection of substances that reverse fissures and crevices, temporarily.

Lip filler treatment to achieve the perfect pout

A main aspect in lip fillers rise to popularity is how fast it can be done. Treatment times can be less than half an hour with plump results showing immediately. Longevity of treatment can last up to 6 months, achieving a constant perfect pout.

Every cosmetic procedure carries their own myths. Here we address the ones found with lip filler treatments, also known as lip augmentation.

“People will know I have had lip fillers”

It’s easy to search “celebrity lip fillers” and be bombarded with an array of over-injected stars. Enough to want to make you stay away from a needle. The truth behind the pictures is that dermal fillers can look natural (some people just prefer it not to). With ease, a trained medical practitioner can give a subtle hint of volume and shape to your lips, producing the desired outcome.

We advise you to have an understanding of what you want to achieve from the treatment. Listen to your practitioners advice (they do know best after all!).

Most importantly, work with the face you have. There is no point turning up to an appointment thinking you will be coming out as Angelina Jolie. You will come out as you just with better lips!

“A foreign substance is being injected into my face”

This is not the case. There are many brands out there used for dermal fillers, all promising to give a fuller look. Look for the brands containing Hyaluronic Acid. A natural substance found in our bodies. The injections containing this simply reintroduce it into our bodies. This stimulates our natural hyaluronic acid to work hard in providing a fuller, plumper look.

At Cosmetic Courses we work with Juvederm. A leader in the dermal filler market. Their fillers contain no unnatural substances, just a big old dose of a synthetic version of our bodies own hyaluronic acid.

“Only people with thin lips get fillers”

The most common use for lip fillers is to plump out thinner lips. Although they can do much more than that. Fillers can contour your mouth, define a cupids bow, hydrate dry lips & add symmetry to your face. The possibilities are endless…

“I’m too young/old for fillers”

Fillers are known for the anti-ageing qualities. The hyaluronic acid triggers collagen in the skin to rejuvenate the chosen areas. As well as this it’s also enhancing the area, adding volume.

Many celebrities of all ages use fillers as part of their beauty regime. From Jennifer Aniston preventing ageing to the infamous Kylie Jenner lips.

“My lips will feel strange afterwards”

Another popular lip filler myth. Apart from the swelling after your treatment (which can last up to a day). Your lips will feel back to normal. Some patients even forget they have had their lips done unless they look in a mirror!

“When the filler wears off will my lips be even smaller than before?”

Filler top ups can be done after the previous treatment has dissolved. You can stop having lip fillers completely without any side effects. Your lips will return to their natural size, they won’t be smaller than when you first started having treatment. The hyaluronic acid introduced by the injection will dissolve slowly over time leaving you with your natural lips.

“Lip fillers are irreversible”

As long as you have hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers, the effects will not be permanent. As discussed above, your body naturally breaks down the filler over time. Along with this, if you are unhappy with your results there is always the possibility to instantly dissolve the filler using a substance called Hyalase. This is almost always unnecessary but gives you the peace of mind that there is an option to reverse the filler if required.

Are you considering dermal fillers but still researching your options? In this week’s blog we bring you everything you need to know about dermal fillers, right from A-Z…

A – Aftercare

After having dermal filler treatment it is extremely important to follow the aftercare advice down to a T! One of the hardest to follow is avoiding makeup for the rest of the day post-treatment. This prevents the introduction of infection into the injection sites. If you do need to wear makeup at any point we would recommend mineral-based foundation.

B – Benefits

There are a range of benefits associated with modern dermal fillers that we use at Cosmetic Courses. Firstly there is very little recovery time meaning you can resume your daily routine immediately after treatment. The treatment can be tailored to your needs and built upon over time. If you want a subtle, natural look this can be achieved in a single treatment but if you are looking for a more dramatic effect this can also be achieved over a course of treatments. It’s important to let your practitioner know which type of look you are aiming for so that a treatment plan can be designed specifically for you.

C – Cheek Augmentation

One of the most popular areas of the face to have dermal fillers is into the cheeks, known as a cheek augmentation. The reason for this is as we age we lose fat and therefore volume in the cheek area which can make you look hollow and can cause the skin to sag downwards. This sagging can cause more prominent lines in the lower face such as between the nose and mouth and the marionette lines. By injecting dermal fillers into the cheeks, they work to add volume back into the mid-face, improving the appearance of wrinkles and making your cheeks appear chiselled and rejuvenated.

D – Dermal FillersJuvederm smile

D is for dermal fillers of course! Dermal fillers replace volume that is lost during the ageing process. There are a variety of companies that produce dermal fillers and within each brand of filler there are different strengths. At Cosmetic Courses we use the Juvederm range of dermal fillers, which is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. (Find out more about hyaluronic acid below!) The strength of your dermal fillers will be assessed according to your needs and desired outcome.

E – Effects

The effects of dermal fillers are immediate. However, the longevity of the effects can vary, depending on each individual, the type of dermal filler and the area that has been treated. Effects will last a shorter amount of time when the dermal filler is applied to the lips as there is a significant amount of movement in this area causing the filler to break down. We tend to say that the effects on average will last between 6-18 months on static areas such as the cheeks but 3-6 months for the lips.

F – Feet

Foot cushioning is one of the latest innovations using dermal fillers and is in demand by ladies who live and work in their heels. Nicknamed the ‘loub lift’ the treatment involves injecting dermal fillers into the sole of the foot to create a cushion and make wearing those killer heels much more comfortable!

G – Gorgeous

Dermal fillers should be used to enhance your natural beauty and make you feel gorgeous rather than make you look like a completely different person.

H – Hyaluronic Acid

The most popular type of dermal filler is made of hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance that occurs in the body. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for lubricating joints and skin tissue and gives you that plumpness in your skin. Over time the rate at which you produce hyaluronic acid slows down. Therefore by introducing it back into the skin via hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers you can achieve a more youthful appearance. It is a completely natural substance and is broken down over time and assimilated back into your body. Hyaluronic acid is also able to hold 1000 times its own weight in water which is one of the reasons it’s so popular as a type of dermal filler!

I – Injection

The treatment is performed using a very fine needle which is inserted underneath the skin and followed by a slow injection of the dermal filler. The needle is extremely fine which minimises any pain but we also numb the treatment area prior to injection by applying topical anaesthetic cream.

J – JuvedermAllergan logo

Juvederm is a brand of dermal filler produced by Allergan; a global healthcare company that has pioneered developments of medical aesthetic treatments for more than 35 years. Juvederm is one of the most popular types of filler and can help refresh, lift and define different areas of the face.

K – Knowledge

Before you commit to any aesthetic treatment it is extremely important to do your research and make sure you know the ins and outs of the process and the recommended aftercare advice – hence our A-Z of dermal fillers!

L – Lip Augmentation

Another very popular area of the face to have dermal fillers is the lips, known as lip augmentation. Dermal fillers in this area can have two effects:

  1. Define
  2. Produce volume

If you are looking for more definition in your lips then you can have dermal fillers applied to the lip border, which is the edge of the lip. This treatment produces very natural results and a nice outline to your lips. However, if you are looking for more volume then you should ask for your lip body injected with the dermal fillers. The lip body is the actual pink part of the lip and by injecting dermal fillers into this part you can restore plumpness and achieve that perfect pout!

M – Mouth

There are five different areas around the mouth that we can inject with dermal fillers:

  1. Marionette lines – the lines which go from the corner of your lip towards your jowls
  2. Nasolabial folds – the lines which go from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth
  3. Oral Commisures – the very corner of your mouth which can give you that downturned look
  4. Peri-oral lines – the smoker’s lines which appear when you make a pout
  5. Chin augmentation – dermal fillers can be injected into the chin to reduce dimpling, or contour the shape.

N – Non-Surgical Facelift

With advances in dermal fillers we can now produce what’s known as a non-surgical facelift also known as the 8 Point Facelift or Liquid Facelift. This technique injects dermal fillers  into various points on the mid and lower face to produce an overall lift to the cheeks and jowl area. This is a slightly more expensive approach to dermal fillers than simply injecting one specific line or fold, however it provides an overall rejuvenated effect to the face rather than just focusing on one area alone.

O – Only at Cosmetic Courses

Cosmetic Courses is one of the only places where you can receive a high quality treatment at a discounted price. By becoming a model you can save up to £175 on your dermal filler treatment!

P – Permanent Fillers

A common misconception is that if you undergo lip filler you will end up looking like Leslie Ash. This is not the case. The difference between the fillers Leslie Ash had compared to what you would receive at Cosmetic Courses or any other high quality clinic is that Leslie Ash had permanent fillers injected into her lips rather than temporary ones. In her case the silicone set around the muscles in her lips and it is now impossible for surgeons to remove it. So it’s important to remember that ‘Permanent fillers cause permanent problems’ so always make sure you are being treated with temporary hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers.

Q – Quick

The treatment itself is extremely quick usually taking only 30-45 minutes to complete. Results will be seen immediately but there will be some slight swelling and redness initially so true results can be seen approximately 2 weeks post-treatment.

R – Rhinoplasty

Dermal fillers can even be used to perform what’s known as a non-surgical rhinoplasty. A combination of Botox and dermal fillers can be injected into the nose to amend any contour irregularities or change the shape of your nose. Unlike a surgical rhinoplasty this is a much quicker procedure, is a lot less expensive and has very little downtime.

S – Smoker’s Lines

Dermal fillers can be used to correct smoker’s lines, also known as peri-oral lines. These are the vertical lines above the lip that appear when you pout. These are known as smoker’s lines because if you are a regular smoker and have been for some years, the continuous process of moving your lips into that pout position causes troughs in your skin which appear as wrinkles. Injecting these lines with dermal fillers, rejuvenates this area of the face.

T – Tear Trough Rejuvenationbefore after tear trough

Tear trough rejuvenation, also known as peri-orbital rejuvenation is most commonly used to reduce dark circle or tear troughs beneath the eyes which give a tired, sunken look. Dermal fillers are injected between the lower eyelid and cheek which will thicken the skin beneath and around the eye, resulting in a natural, brighter look.

U – Unwanted Lines

Dermal fillers can correct any unwanted lines across your face such as laughter lines or smiling lines. They will improve the appearance of your wrinkles and replace the volume that has been lost due to ageing.

V – Very Happy

We have had some very happy clients over the years including Liz who has had a range of treatments with us:

W – Women

Although a majority of the demand for dermal fillers is from females we are slowly seeing an increase in the demand for these types of injectable treatments from the male population.

X – X-rated

Dermal fillers are only licensed for patients aged 18 and over. Therefore if you are under 18 we would not treat you with dermal fillers at Cosmetic Courses.

Y – Your Face is Uniqueconsultation with mel

Everyone’s face is unique meaning treatment for each individual will be different. It is important to thoroughly discuss with your practitioner your aims and desires from treatment so that a bespoke treatment plan can be created specifically for your needs.

Z – Zero Cost

There is zero cost for a consultation at Cosmetic Courses. If you are unsure about which treatment would be best for you, or would just like to discuss your options then please feel free to visit us for your no-cost, no-obligation consultation.

Lip augmentation is back in the news, thanks to youngest Kardashian sister Kylie Jenner…

The teenage star of Keeping Up With the Kardashians has finally admitted what most of us knew already – her newly plump pout is thanks to temporary lip fillers, not lip liner after all.

The revelation didn’t go unnoticed by the British public. In the 24 hours after she confessed, UK clinics saw a huge spike in enquiries for the procedure, with some reporting a staggering 70% increase.

While people clamouring for treatment creates huge opportunities for us as aesthetic practitioners, it can also raise some interesting dilemmas.

Whenever there is massive demand for a treatment, it’s vital that we keep our wits about us.

As practitioners, we’re constantly engaged in a kind of balancing act. On the one hand, we want to give our patients the results they’re asking for. But on the other, we have to consider the results that would be best for them.

Fortunately, most of the time, these tend to be in alignment. But problems can arise when they are not. And lip augmentation is a classic example of a treatment where careful judgement is so vital.

Age-appropriate lip augmentation

Age-inappropriate lip augmentationFull lips are attractive because they convey youth. So replacing lost volume (or adding it for younger patients with naturally thin lips) is a reliable way to give a face more youthful vigour.

But the goal, as with any cosmetic enhancement, is to stay within the limits of what’s appropriate – particularly for a patient’s age.

Our aim with lip augmentation should always be to leave our patients with full, attractive but – crucially – age-appropriate lips.

No matter how our patients clamour for lips like Kylie Jenner, Angelina Jolie et al, we have to keep our professional integrity and be willing to say no if it won’t be right for them.

That’s why learning the proper technique is only part of the equation when it comes to training in lip augmentation.

Bespoke lip augmentation training

Successful lip augmentation is nuanced, takes the patient’s facial features and their age into account, and has clearly defined outcomes from the beginning.

With this in mind, at Cosmetic Courses we’ve developed a bespoke training course completely devoted to lips. The intensive four-hour session focuses on age-appropriate attractiveness, covering both advanced technique and desired outcomes, based on the ‘Aurora Lip Analysis’ pioneered by our Clinical Director Adrian Richards.

During the session, you’ll learn the specific Aurora cannula technique developed by Adrian Richards, which uses a blunt cannula and only one entry point. This innovation makes it less painful for patients, with a far quicker recovery time owing to the reduced trauma and bruising.

If you have some experience of lip fillers and would like to advance your skills and become a more authoritative practitioner in this rapidly growing area of aesthetic medicine, our bespoke lip course will give you all the extra confidence you need.

For more information on our bespoke lip augmentation course, or to book a place, please contact the Cosmetic Courses team on 01844 318317 or email [email protected].

This weekend, 8-9th March, Cosmetic Courses are exhibiting at the ACE Conference If you’re going to be there, come along and say hello!

The ACE Conference is one of the biggest events in the industry, and it’s our first time exhibiting, so we’re really looking forward to it.

Lots of preparations have been made over the last few weeks, with the whole team working hard behind the scenes. Now it’s almost here, we’re excited to find out what the conference is like, and get the chance to meet lots of people in the industry.

You’ll be able to find us at Stand 31, where we’ll be offering lots of practical help for people looking to start or develop their aesthetic careers, including:

  • * Exclusive discounts – book a course during the conference and receive £100 discount!
  • * Advice and information on new training courses
  • * Upcoming course dates
  • * Business advice

On the Saturday afternoon at 3pm, our Clinical Director, Adrian Richards, and Aesthetic Nurse and Trainer, Mel Recchia, will be performing a live demonstration of lip augmentation with dermal fillers at ACE Conference.

The idea is to give people an introduction to the treatment, as well a taster of what they can expect when they come along to one of our courses. So if you are coming to the conference and interested in learning lip filler techniques, it should be well worth you coming along.

If you don’t have tickets for the event but think you might want to attend, the ACE conference takes place at the Business Design Centre in Islington, and entry to the exhibition is free (though if you want to attend lectures, seminars and masterclasses, a charge is payable).

For anyone who is going to be there, whether exhibiting or attending, we’ll see you there.

When you set up your own Medical Aesthetics practise, you will quickly find a Ghost that haunts you. You will particularly experience her looming shadow if you decide to offer Lip Filler treatments. But we can pretty much guarantee that her name will crop up over and over regardless. “I don’t want to end up looking like Leslie Ash!”: it is a plea from your clients that will become all-too familiar.

The Leslie Ash “Look” is certainly not high on most people’s aesthetic wish-list. You have most probably seen the recurrent pictures in the media of her now infamous “trout pout”. The unfortunate woman has been hauled over the coals as an example of Cosmetic Surgery Gone Wrong in every woman’s mag. article of that theme ever since her Lip Body treatment in 2002.

Ash originally claimed she had collagen Lip Implants to correct her disappearing top lip (an unfortunate but common side-effect of ageing) and maintain her image in the public eye. Ironically, the treatment had the opposite effect, bringing her notoriety for all the wrong reasons. Back in 2003, the actress typically told the Press that her permanently swollen, upwards-curled top lip was a terrible accident and the result of a reaction to the collagen in the implant. By 2010 she had conceded that it was not an implant at all, but an injection of liquid silicone (the same lethal cocktail responsible for the recent death of Claudia Aderotimi) which had caused the ridiculous effect.

“The Curse of Leslie Ash” is therefore that hundreds of women who would otherwise have considered lip-enhancing treatment have now been put off completely. And of those that do approach you for procedures, a large number will need reassurance that they will not leave your Clinic looking similarly over-the-top or caricatured.

In his talks to delegates attending Medical Aesthetic courses at the Cosmetic Courses National Training Centre, Mr Adrian Richards (Consultant Plastic Surgeon) is always keen to set the facts straight. For starters, there should be broader awareness of precisely which treatment Leslie Ash underwent: it seems very wrong that by initially shielding the truth, she has created mistrust and fear of both Lip Fillers and Lip Implants. Prospective clients do not realise that Dermal Fillers are not the same as the injections which she had, and can give lovely subtle enhancement to both the lip body and border (in the hands of a qualified, trained medical professional). Nor do they always understand that she did not have a Lip Implant at all and that it is therefore well worth investigating the potential of Permalip implants. In fact, Mr Richards highly recommends the Permalip implant as a method of augmenting the lip body: these implants come in a huge variety of sizes and shapes, are sculptable, safe and above all can be removed if necessary.

In contrast, Liquid Silicone injections, like Ash had injected into her lips by a plastic surgeon whilst at a friend’s house, is permanent. And as Mr Richards warns all his trainee Aesthetic Practitioners, ‘Permanent fillers cause Permanent problems’. In Leslie Ash’s case, the silicone set around the muscles in her lips and it is now impossible for surgeons to remove it.

So there you have it: of course, however silly the actress may have been, she is also incredibly unfortunate. She is certainly not alone, but possibly receives more publicity about the matter than most and will almost certainly be one of the names you come to regard as a bug-bear. Instead of getting irritated by this, however, try to see your role as educating your clients, so that others do not make the mistakes of Ash and others. With this knowledge, you can ensure that you offer only the best and most suitable treatments and therefore provide genuine reassurance that your clients will not walk out of your Treatment Room and straight into the Gossip Columns!

Lip augmentation treatment is a cosmetic procedure that is popular today among the routine cosmetic options that help women look younger. It increases the size of the lips. TheLip Augmentation upper and lower lip may be treated at the same time or one may be treated alone. On the majority of sites where patients can discuss their cosmetic procedures only 50% of the women who have had lip augmentation were happy with the results. It is a simple procedure that can have great benefits, so why do so many people regret having it?

Many plastic surgeons believe that the main cause of bad lip augmentation treatment is because the injector is inexperienced. Without thorough knowledge of the subject they tend to inject too much filler. Since it is easier to add more filler later than it is to remove excess, it is best to start with small amounts of filler and see the results.

There are different types of filler from fat to hyaluronic acid-base material such as Restylane and Juvederm. These are clear gel that is similar to what is found in the body. Fat is also a good filler because it is a permanent solution for most people. First, it needs to be harvested then injected into the lips. 30% to 50% of it grafts to the new location so it usually needs to be done twice to get the best results. Implants are permanent but sometimes are not put in the right place and end up looking lopsided. Any permanent cosmetic procedure needs to look right the first time. Otherwise, it is better to use the fillers that wear off in three to six months.

Recovery time varies. Injections take 1 to 2 recovery days but bruising and swelling may last a week. Implants and grafts take 1 to 2 recovery weeks and may be stiff for 2 to 3 months. Synthetic implants are good because they form scar tissue, so they stay in place and are never absorbed by the body, but there is the possibility of infection and rejection by the body. Fillers made from collagen taken from cadavers or cow skin can cause an allergic reaction even though the collagen is purified.

It is advisable to seriously consider whether or not lip augmentation treatment is a good idea. Even though significant complications are rare, there are risks depending on the chosen filler as well as the possibility of allergic reactions and scarring.

Much of the focus in plastic surgery lately has been moving north…to the lips! A simple lip augmentation can give you a dramatic and sensuous look with the fullness of celebrities like Angelina Jolie. This procedure can give you more self-confidence and balance your appearance. Since aging can cause you to lose collagen and volume in your lips, lip augmentation can even make you look younger!

But with something as noticeable as your lips, you should take care to make sure the procedure is done right. It is difficult to cover up a mistake right on the front of your face! If you are considering a lip augmentation procedure, take the time to research the best products on the market.

Restylane is one of the more common products on the lip augmentation market, and its results are quite promising. Unlike other injectable fillers like fat and collagen, this substance is a biodegradable gel that contains no animal products. It is based on hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body with the purpose of providing fullness and elasticity.

Lip injections with Restylane are fast, easy, and relatively pain-free. You do not even need a skin test, since the product is not animal-based and the risk of an allergic reaction is low. Because Restylane does not contain lidocaine like collagen, you may experience pain upon injection. Using a small needle, the gel is placed in the inside of the lips in little amounts. The volume it adds, though, is impressive. The entire procedure can take from just a few minutes up to half an hour, and you can go home shortly thereafter. The full recovery time is only about two to three days, and there are relatively few side effects besides some tenderness and swelling at the site of the injection.

Since Restylane is one of the latest developments in lip augmentation procedures, costs will vary by physician and location. But Restylane is sure to be a great value for your money, since it can stay effective for six months (much longer than other treatments). Using Restylane can enhance and regenerate your lips to add volume and shape. The product has also been approved by the FDA for the improvement of facial wrinkles, aging lines, and crow’s feet.

Lip augmentation can be risky. If done correctly, treatment therapies that give you firmer, fuller lips can make you look dramatic and stunning. But after seeing pictures of so many cases gone wrong, resulting in taut and comically large lips, you may be nervous to give it a try. If you’re looking for a natural and safe alternative way to increase your lip size, don’t turn to injections – give implants a try!

Life implants are a new trend in plastic surgery showing promising results. SurgiSil ™, a Texas medical device manufacturing company, recently introduced the Perma Facial Implant™. The product’s innovation is causing quite a buzz.

The Perma Facial Implant is a silicone implant designed for the lips, but with the capability for implantation into the cheeks, nose, and chin. It was approved by the FDA in 2007, and there are over 100 surgeons in the United States offering Perma Facial Implants. Unlike silicone injections, Perma Facial Implants consist of two solid elastomer pieces inserted into the lips. They come in different sizes, and can be easily removed if there are problems or you are unsatisfied. They look and feel smooth and natural. Because they are solid, they will not break or leak, nor will they develop scar tissue around the implant sight.

Although the cost of Perma Facial Implants is higher than injectable fillers, the procedure only has to be performed once or permanent results (unlike injections, which may be needed every few months). Following the surgery, you may experience side effects including swelling, bruising, and pain. You may be prescribed medication to help with these issues.

Although Perma implants are known to be safe an effective, there are other synthetic implants avialble. These include products like AlloDerm®, which is derived from human cadaver tissue. Although this product feels natural, it only lasts between six and 12 months. SoftForm, GORE-TEX® and Ultrasoft are other brands that rely on expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, a non-biodegradable synthetic polymer.

Meeting with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the most important step in determining which procedure is the best fit for you. Any procedure of this sort should be conducted by a trained specialist. No matter what, the doctor can make a huge difference between making your lips look full and just awkwardly swollen.
